Facilities and Support Services

All JCU-ELC students have access to a wonderful range of facilities on our campuses based in Cairns at James Cook University and Townsville at the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE.

Classrooms

All our classrooms are comfortably appointed, they are suitable size for the variety of activities that are used in English Language teaching and allow for a variety of communication activities to take place as apart of the students learning.

Multimedia and Self Access Room

The Multimedia and Self Access Centre is a fully equipped computer laboratory. It can be used with multimedia language learning materials to assist students with their language development. Students also use the computer laboratory at the Centre to learn basic computer skills needed for further study, as a research tool, and for internet and email access. In-class assistance is given for developing internet and word-processing skills.

Self-Access is a relaxed space where students can develop their English skills at their own pace and in their own way. It has computers, as well as an area for students to talk, catch up with current newspapers and magazines, or do work together.

Library

In Cairns, students are able to access JCU library, this includes using the quiet study areas the research data bases and viewing books in the library. Students are able to borrow books from the library for a small fee. All academic students have this fee included in their fees and can therefore access the library at no cost.

In Townsville students can access the TAFE library for quiet study and research although they are not on the JCU campus they can access this library during non school hours and weekends.

Places to Eat

Jac's provides a relaxing outdoor setting to enjoy a coffee or a delicious meal, and is licensed. Jac's is located adjacent to the library building in Cairns.

The Refectory located on the ground floor of building A1,(adjacent to JCU-ELC) the Refectory provides meals, drinks and snacks at reasonable prices. Television and a pool table are also available.
